Colorado Mesa University

Freshman Year Initiative

Sunday, August 10 through Friday, August 15, 2014

The transition from high school to college is a major step. We encourage you to get a jump-start on your college career and join other first-year students in the FYI Program. The program is designed specifically for students just graduating high school and entering college for the first time. Taught by Colorado Mesa University faculty, the FYI Program is designed to give students a better understanding of the skills needed to be successful in college including study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management techniques. In addition to expanding your knowledge, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with our campus and the many resources available to help you reach your academic and professional goals. Plus, you'll be able to participate in activities throughout the week and start building friendships that may last a lifetime.

FYI Students

  • understand the skills needed for reading college-level textbooks
  • expand note-taking techniques
  • build on previous test-taking skills
  • learn how to use the CMU library resources and computer laboratories
  • relate goals and time management to academic success
  • discover memory enhancement skills for college achievement
  • realize the wealth of resources available through Academic Services: tutoring, advising, career services and more!

Costs are billed directly to your Colorado Mesa University student account
