The transition from high school to college is a major step. We encourage you to get a jump-start on your college career and join other first-year students in the FYI Program. The program is designed specifically for students just graduating high school and entering college for the first time. Taught by Colorado Mesa University faculty, the FYI Program is designed to give students a better understanding of the skills needed to be successful in college including study skills, test-taking strategies, and time management techniques. In addition to expanding your knowledge, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with our campus and the many resources available to help you reach your academic and professional goals. Plus, you'll be able to participate in activities throughout the week and start building friendships that may last a lifetime.
Costs are billed directly to your Colorado Mesa University student account
Introduction to Higher Education (SUPP 101), the class taught during the FYI Program, will add two credits to your fall class schedule. Students will be charged for two credits of tuition in addition to the FYI Program charges. Students Living on Campus for the FYI Program: $505
The FYI Program begins on Sunday afternoon. Students who have been assigned campus housing with the last name beginning with A-L may move in on Sunday from 8:00-9:30am and students with the last name beginning with M-Z may move in from 9:30-11:00am. From 11:00-2:00pm there will be open move-in. FYI students will move directly into the room assigned to them for the academic year. Students withdrawing from CMU after the start of the FYI Program will be liable for the cost of their 2015-2016 residence life contract. The cost for the on-campus option of FYI includes the program fee, textbook*, additional supplies, housing and meals for the week of FYI.
Commuter Student: $300
This option is for students living off campus during FYI week. The cost for commuter students include lunches Sunday through Friday, the program fee, textbook* and additional supplies.
*Your textbook is a special edition that will be provided at the program check-in. DO NOT purchase one in advance!
If your plan to live on campus during the FYI program, please indicate this on your registration form. You will be moving directly into the room assigned to you for the academic year. You may move in on Aug. 9 between 8am and 2pm. To make the check-in process go as smoothly as possible, we will be checking in students with last names beginning with the letters A-L from 8-9:30am and students with last names beginning with the letters M-Z from 9:30-11am. We will have open check-in from 11am-2:00pm. Simply go straight to your assigned residence hall — Residence Life is expecting you!
You must complete your FYI Program check-in on Sunday no later than 2pm. Check-in will occur just outside the Admissions Office Welcome Center. You will receive your textbook, class schedule and other materials. The first required session will be held Sunday promptly at 3pm in the Meyer Ballroom.
July 31, 2015: Last day to register for FYI (or until program fills to capacity)
August 3, 2015: Last day for a 100 percent refund if program attendance is dropped
August 6, 2015: Last day for a 50 percent refund if program attendance is dropped
August 7, 2015: No refunds available

IMPORTANT NOTE: Provisional Baccalaureate students should register for the MVP Program, not FYI.
To register for the FYI Program, please log into your MAVzone account and go to the “Next Steps” tab. On the bottom right under “Plan for Your Arrival” please click “Freshman Year Initiative (FYI) Program.” An FYI enrollment confirmation e-mail with program details will be sent to your coloradomesa.edu account as well as the additional e-mail addresses you provide in your registration form.
